“Not everyone finds Zlatorog’s jewels. They certainly don’t lie down on the beaches among the crowds of Sunday swimmers. Nor will you find them at shallow entertainment venues. Anyone who wants to seek them out will have to make more of an effort. If they don’t mind a blister or a litre of sweat, they are sure to find at least one. Zlatorog’s treasure is vast; once, we even thought it was immeasurable. Today we know that it is neither inexhaustible nor eternal. All of us, locals and visitors alike, must protect it, because we want to pass it on to our children as untouched as possible.
The invitation to Bohinj has been sent to many different people. It is intended for humble ramblers as well as masters of the high mountains. Everyone will set about discovering Bohinj in a way that suits their wishes and abilities. The difficulty of the walks and mountain tours in the book gradually increases, so it can also serve as a textbook for Bohinj’s “mountaineering school”. Anyone who completes it successfully will, while discovering Bohinj’s beauty, mature into a good mountaineer. Good luck!

I wrote this guide solely on the basis of my own experience, having walked every route and trackless path described. I return to many of them every year. My interpretation of many years of wandering through the Bohinj mountains is therefore entirely personal. I see them through the eyes of someone in love. How alluring and seductive they are!”
