More than 18 years have passed since the first edition of Climbing Areas Without Borders, and a great deal has happened in that time across the three regions covered by this now-cult classic climbing guidebook. The number of climbing areas has risen from 12 to 31, and the number of routes from just under 700 to almost 3000 (400 since the last edition in 2014 alone).
So, what are the main updates in the current edition?
Where clarity called for photographs, these have been replaced with diagrams.
Alongside updates on all existing climbing areas, the main new additions are on the Italian and Croatian sides:
– a new climbing area in Nabrežina/Aurisina and new, well-equipped sectors on the Napoleon Road and in Glinščica;
– in Istria, climbing areas above Čiritež and Medveja have been added, along with new, attractive sectors at Istrske toplice and Brseč.
