General information:

• Resin brake pads are quieter than metal pads, but offer slightly lower performance and wear out faster.

• Metal brake pads have a longer service life, are more resistant to brake fade and provide consistent deceleration in dry and wet conditions. They can be noisy when braking.

Ice Technologies:

• Prolonged, continuous use of the brakes causes fade, which reduces braking performance. Shimano has introduced brake rotors and pads with Ice-Tech, using cooling technology to maintain consistently high braking performance.

• The brake rotor has a three-layer structure: stainless steel on the outside around an aluminium core. This allows better heat dissipation and lowers the surface temperature.

• The brake pads have aluminium cooling fins that further optimise heat dissipation.

• The combination of the rotor and cooling fins provides:

  • Longer pad life

  • Less brake noise

  • Less fade

  • Lower brake system weight
