The new Scale RC uses a monocoque construction, in which the main part of the frame – the front triangle – is made from a single mould. Drawing on SCOTT’s carbon expertise, the frame is made up of just three parts, bonded together. Fewer joints mean greater efficiency: lower weight, increased stiffness and optimal power transfer – qualities that are essential for competitive hardtail bikes. As the frame is shaped as a whole, the monocoque design allows forces to be distributed evenly throughout the entire structure.
A small service port, accessible via a cover on the down tube, provides easy access to the inside of the frame without having to remove the bottom bracket. This makes frame maintenance, especially cable routing, significantly easier.
The dropouts (where the axle attaches to the rear triangle) feature an advanced hollow construction, allowing the axle head to engage with the inner surface and sit flush with the outside of the frame. This approach delivers the lightest possible construction and a clean, elegant look. The new design saves 7.5 g directly, while the optimised shape also allows for a narrower rear triangle (HMX-SL), saving a further 20 g.
