From the very beginning, the goal was to create the lightest possible electric bike. After extensive testing, it was clear that the TQ HPR50 was the best solution for our SCOTT eRIDE team. TQ is a German company founded in 1994, specialising in electrical components for various industries, including aerospace, pharmaceuticals and infrastructure. With the HPR50, they have rewritten the rulebook, delivering a power-to-weight ratio of 1.8 kg for 50 Nm. With a diameter of 8 cm, TQ has innovated by using a harmonic gear system. This allows for a smaller system while increasing its precision. The result is a lighter bike with better integration, while reduced backlash provides a more natural pedalling feel. This technology makes for a quieter system and a truly natural riding experience.

 

 

The Lumen is equipped with an integrated 360 Wh battery, which can be supplemented with a 160 Wh external battery. It is easy to install on the front bottle cage mount, using a special mount designed by SCOTT for quick fitting and removal. TQ’s expertise is reflected in the HPR50 battery and range extender combination, which helps maximise battery performance from start to finish. TQ uses special battery cells that deliver maximum performance even when the battery is almost empty. The system can be charged with the range extender or a smart charger. Fast charging for the bike’s battery is a priority – it reaches 80% in just 2 hours.

2 BOTTLE CAGE MOUNTS…

Unlike other E-MTBs, the Lumen can be fitted with two bottle cages, keeping you hydrated on longer rides. Thanks to its integrated suspension, there is enough space for an additional battery and an extra bottle cage.

SUSPENSION LAYOUT – FLEX PIVOT

The Lumen uses the same suspension layout as SCOTT’s Spark – a two-time World Championship-winning bike. The first time we rode a bike with this suspension layout, we fell in love with it. Years later, we are still convinced that this approach is best for technical off-road riding and trails. The Lumen’s suspension layout has exceptionally specific, proven kinematics and less unsprung weight. Using a flex pivot in the seatstay is the ideal solution for a bike with this travel. It allows us to keep the system light while ensuring optimal performance.

INTEGRATED SUSPENSION TECHNOLOGY

The Spark made its debut with integrated suspension, and the Lumen follows the same principle. Wondering why it’s integrated? Firstly, because it looks incredibly good. But looking deeper, this approach allows us to improve suspension performance without compromising on weight. When developing the world’s lightest E-MTB, every gram counts. For optimal suspension performance, power transfer needs to be as direct as possible. Integrated suspension improves things in several ways. The frame construction is stiffer and reduces unnecessary lateral movement relative to the direction of travel. We can add larger bearings to the seat tube and reinforce this area, reducing movement. These improvements may seem small and insignificant, but together they contribute to effective suspension. The suspension itself is protected from impacts and the elements, two factors that affect its performance and operation. With its lower centre of gravity, improved handling and stability, the frame gives the rider greater confidence.

FRAME

As with the Spark, the riding position is like that of a conventional bike. We wanted a trail bike’s downhill capability as well as its easy climbing. The sooner you get to the top, the sooner you can descend again. The TQ motor allows us to retain the standard Q-factor with a 55 mm chainline – just like the Spark. This gives us plenty of clearance between the tyre and the frame without reducing stiffness, as well as the same riding position and pedal width as on a conventional bike.

SAG

Setting the sag is straightforward, using the indicator on the external link and the port on the bike frame.

LUMEN COCKPIT

The Lumen 900 SL and 900 are equipped with an integrated Syncros Fraser IC DC handlebar. The cables are routed beneath the handlebar, giving the bike an exceptionally clean look. This also prevents the cables from twisting. There is room to fit a computer, light, etc. The Lumen 910 and Contessa models are equipped with a standard handlebar and stem, with internal cable routing. Syncros ensures that every contact point on the bike is designed for an outstanding riding experience.

HANDLEBAR CONTROL SYSTEM

The system is controlled via a minimalist handlebar switch, paired with a display on the top tube. It is very easy to use thanks to its ergonomic position on the handlebar. You can easily operate it while riding, as well as when using Walk mode.

TRACK YOUR RIDES

The TQ app provides a useful and easy way to track your rides. With the TQ E-bike app, you can easily connect to, customise and control your bike. In the app, you can select the drive unit, save battery life or increase power output. You can also change the pedal response for a quicker motor response or slow it down. You can customise the display settings too, including the order of the information, turning it on or off, and enabling or disabling sound. With no buzzing or noise, you and your bike can enjoy the moment on the trail.
